Every MBA aspirant aspires to get into top B-schools like Indian Institute of Management or popularly known as IIMs. Presently 20 IIMs offer MBA programme under various specialisations, out of which seven IIMs are baby/newly formed IIMs. The seven new IIMs formed are IIM Amritsar, IIM Bodhgaya, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Nagpur, IIM Sirmaur and IIM Visakhapatnam. Candidates wanting to get into IIMs must obtain a valid score in Common Admission Test (CAT) to qualify for the admission process of IIM. CAT exam is conducted every year in November.
The CAT exam 2021 is likely to be conducted on November 28 and the official notification will release by the end of July. Candidates planning to apply for CAT must know the road ahead after the exam so that they can make an informed decision. IIM Admission Through CAT
The IIM follows a three-step admission process for final admission to its MBA programme. The first step is shortlisting candidates on the basis of CAT score for Group Discussion/Analytical Writing Test/ Personal Interview rounds. In the second step, the candidates appear for the rounds conducted by the respective IIMs and the final round consists of the final selection of the candidates for admission on the basis of CAT exam score, academic record, work experience and performance in GD/PI. Step 1- Shortlisting of candidates
Candidates who will appear for the CAT exam will be eligible for shortlisting criteria of IIM. Respective IIMs releases the CAT qualifying cutoff before the declaration of CAT result. Candidates who meet the minimum cutoff criteria will be invited to apply for GD/PI/WAT rounds. The composite score for shortlisting candidates is calculated by considering the following parameters:
- CAT exam score
- Class 10th score
- Class 12th score
- Bachelor’s degree score
- Gender diversity factor
Step 2- Screening of the shortlisted candidates
Shortlisted candidates are evaluated on the basis of GD/PI/WAT rounds. This round assesses candidate’s skills such as:
- Leadership skills
- Communication skills
- Analytical and logical reasoning
- Problem-solving skills
Step 3- Final selection
In the final stage, a list of shortlisted candidates for admission to IIMs is announced considering various parameters. Candidates can check the table below to know the parameters for final selection to IIMs:
