Why Should Consider Buying a Second-hand RAM Truck?

RAM trucks are trendy in the United States. They are the number one selling vehicle for many reasons, including their capabilities and options.

According to Statista, some 451,400 heavy-duty trucks will be sold to customers in the United States in 2021.

One area of concern is owning one of these vehicles used because it could be costly to own without any warranty protection. One option might be buying a second-hand truck with low miles or just purchasing new and then taking out an extended warranty.

Depending on the trim level and mileage, a person can buy a second-hand RAM 1500 for around $30,000 to $100,000. A new 2019 RAM TRX4 will cost about $65,000 at most dealerships.

The following article will explain the benefits of buying a second-hand truck compared to a new truck, and you will also learn more about the various options when considering one.

    1) No Warranty Protection

One thing that might be a cause of concern is the lack of warranty coverage when buying a second-hand 2019 RAM TRX4. While dealerships will still honor the most significant parts, asking what might not be covered before buying any car is best.

However, buyers can purchase their extended warranties to protect against this. As of 2010, RAM has the most comprehensive warranty coverage in the automotive industry, with five years or 100,000 miles.

    2) Penalized by New-Vehicle Prices

Another thing to consider is that the new 2019 RAM TRX4 will depreciate by around 9 percent at first and then 15 percent after five years of ownership. It means that a person will lose about $8,000 just by owning it for those first five years.

For those who buy used, they could have saved as much as 18 percent from the list price of the vehicle right away. For example, a 2020 RAM 1500 would cost about $30,166, significantly less than if they opted for a new one.

    3) Optional Features

Many people forget when debating the benefits of owning a second-hand truck because they are likely to have better options than what is available in new trucks.

Some unique features are described below:

    a) Ambulance Package

The ambulance package is an optional feature in a 2020 RAM 1500. The back seats are moved forward to create more space for medical supplies, equipment, and even patients in some instances.

    b) Advanced Safety Options

Several advanced safety features can come standard on a RAM truck but might not be available with the new 2019 RAM TRX4. For example, the 2020 RAM 1500 has a surround-view monitor, which can help drivers avoid blind spots.

    c) Chrome Appearance Group

A chrome appearance group is an option available on some levels of the 2020 RAM 1500, and it includes impressive chrome entry guards and a front bumper accent. The 2019 RAM TRX4 does not offer this feature.

    d) Bobtail Package

Some 2020 RAM 1500s come with the bobtail package, including several helpful features. For example, it has an under-rail box shield and skid plate to protect the most vulnerable parts of the vehicle when in off-road circumstances.

    e) Gooseneck Trailer Hitch

Another option available on some 2020 RAM 1500 is the gooseneck package. It can tow up to 16,200 pounds of cargo, which will help get large equipment or even livestock to where it needs to be.

    f) Velvet Red Interior Color

The 2019 RAM TRX4 comes in blue or grey inside but has a limited selection of colors. The 2020 RAM 1500 has several interior color options, including a red velvet shade.

    4) Better Vehicle Resale Value

The 2020 RAM 1500 has a better resale value than the 2019 RAM TRX4. One study estimated it could be as much as 37 percent more expensive to own the newer vehicle in five years.

RAM trucks hold their value very well and have a lower depreciation rate than even the industry average.

    5) More Practical for Towing

The 2019 RAM TRX4 is more than capable of towing heavy trailers and weights, but it only tows up to 12,750 pounds or so. A 2020 RAM 1500 can tow as much as 16,200 pounds with the gooseneck package.

    6) Better Towing Capacities

Another reason the 2020 RAM 1500 is a better option is that it has a longer bed than what is found on the 2019 RAM TRX4 and unlocks improved towing capabilities. Depending on how much cargo they need to carry, they can have it short, medium, or even long bed length.

    7) More Cargo Capacity

Another reason the 2020 RAM 1500 is superior to the new 2019 RAM TRX4 is because of its cargo capacity. It can load 4,430-4,830 pounds of objects inside the bed area alone, giving drivers plenty of room for almost anything they need.
